Handling and Storage

If you're like most, you just can't wait to peel into a creamy, delicious Calavo Hass avocado. Choosing Calavo is your assurance that the fruit was grown under the most ideal conditions possible. Since we've ripened it for you, there's no need to squeeze your avocado.  Squeezing can damage the creamy goodness inside.  So now that you've brought the fruit home, how do you care for it?

Simple. RipeNow® fruit can be stored in the refrigerator uncut for 2-3 days. If you have already cut into your fruit and want to store the remainder, sprinkle with lemon or lime juice and place in an airtight container (or cover well with plastic wrap) and then place in the refrigerator. If you are storing guacamole and the top layer turns brown during storage, skim the top layer and discard. The rest is ready to enjoy.

Should you have an abundance of fresh avocados (and we hope you do) try an avocado puree. Use in salads, sandwiches, and dips.

Here's how to puree:

  • Cut avocado in half lengthwise, seed and scoop out the fruit

  • Puree the flesh, adding 1-tablespoon of lemon juice for each 2 pureed avocados

  • Pack the puree into an airtight container with minimal head space
(optional - squeeze lemon juice on top)

  • Refrigerate and use within 4-5 days
